Cheran's 2000 Tamil drama follows two young men, Sekhar from a drought-hit village near Tenkasi and Muthuraman from a farming family near Coimbatore, who each pay their savings to a broker promising them manual jobs in Dubai. When the agent vanishes with the money on the eve of departure, the two strangers, too ashamed to face their families with the truth, agree to swap identities and pose as each other's friend returning from abroad. The story follows how they try to rebuild their households' fortunes and hide their secret while living within each other's families.
