Sent from his hometown to Chennai to settle down and find work, a carefree young man ends up lodging with his father's old friend, whose daughter is already set to marry another man living abroad. Constant teasing and rivalry between the two gradually turns into affection, complicating things as her engagement and family expectations stand in the way. A trip to Ooty for a friend's wedding, and a photograph taken there, further stirs up tension around the planned marriage.
