Thiranottam centers on Kuttappan, a servant with an intellectual disability, and follows the events and people surrounding his daily life. Shot in 1978 by director V. Ashok Kumar, the Malayalam drama marked the first screen appearance of a young Mohanlal, who portrayed Kuttappan, though the film itself did not reach theatres until decades later.
