This 2011 Hindi musical drama draws loosely on the life of South Indian actress Silk Smitha, known for her bold on-screen persona, while also echoing the experiences of other actresses from that era, such as Disco Shanti, and even drawing comparisons to Marilyn Monroe. Rather than being a strict biography, the filmmakers describe it as an amalgam inspired by several women who navigated fame and controversy in the entertainment industry. The project was conceived by producer Ekta Kapoor, who commissioned writer Rajat Aroraa to develop the story, with Milan Luthria directing and Shobha Kapoor co-producing.
