A construction supervisor's wife becomes dissatisfied with their middle-class lifestyle after comparing herself to her brother-in-law's wealthier spouse. Determined to elevate their social standing, she pushes her husband to spend beyond their means while lying to their wealthy neighbors about his profession. As financial pressures mount and debts accumulate, the supervisor resorts to illegal means to support his wife's ambitions, leading to arrest and family crisis.
