This 1991 Tamil drama, marking Raj Kapoor's debut as director, follows Raasaiyya, a young man eager to marry, who is wed to his immature, tomboyish cousin Pechiamma. After witnessing a friend die during childbirth, Pechiamma becomes fearful of marriage and physical intimacy, and keeps her husband at a distance despite his affection for her. The story continues as their relationship is complicated by an act of violence that leaves her pregnant, setting off further consequences for the couple.
