A talented young performer from a poor family falls in love with a wealthy landowner's daughter while traveling with a drama company. When the landowner demands he abandon his mother as a condition for marriage, the young man refuses, and the couple elopes to join the troupe together. They must then overcome various obstacles, including the landowner's nephew who has his own designs on the family's estate.
