A pickle seller named Ramesan arrives in the grim border settlement of Pandavapuram while searching for a friend who works as a hijada, and ends up taking shelter in a brothel run by a woman named Devumma. There he encounters a young girl, Sivani, who develops feelings for him even as an older woman in the house schemes to sell young women to wealthy clients, putting Devumma in conflict between financial need and her care for Sivani.
