Sawan Ko Aane Do

Set largely around a village called Ramnagar and the city of Lucknow, this 1979 Hindi drama follows Chandramukhi, a landowner's daughter, who returns home after her studies and reconnects with a childhood friend, Birju, a gifted but unambitious singer from a modest farming family. Their growing affection is opposed by her father because of their difference in social standing, pushing Birju to leave for the city and pursue a singing career while their families face financial and legal troubles back home. The story follows their separate struggles and enduring feelings for each other over the following years.
