Sargam follows Hema, a mute girl whose home life turns difficult under an unkind stepmother after she reveals a natural gift for classical dance. A visiting former student of her schoolteacher father, who plays the dafli, becomes her steady companion and support through the hardships that follow, including her father's death and her stepmother's harsh treatment. Directed by K. Viswanath as a Hindi remake of his Telugu film, it centers on family conflict, artistic talent, and the bond between Hema and her protector.
