Saraswatichandra

Adapted from Govardhanram Tripathi's Gujarati novel set in India's feudal past, this 1968 black-and-white drama follows Saraswatichandra, a young nobleman initially betrothed to the educated Kumud, whose bond deepens through letters even after he breaks off the engagement. Family conflict forces him to withdraw permanently, leading Kumud into an unhappy marriage to a wealthy but neglectful man, while circumstances later bring the two former sweethearts back into each other's orbit under very different life paths.
