This 1996 Indian drama explores the consequences of a constitutional amendment mandating that one-third of village council positions be reserved for women. When the local male leaders attempt to maintain control by having their wives stand for these seats, a poor woman named Vidya disrupts their plans by demanding accountability for misappropriated government funds meant for community infrastructure.
