Set against the backdrop of India's 1947 partition, this drama follows a Punjabi family who discovers that their adopted son, whom they raised as their own, is actually a Muslim child they rescued during the communal upheaval. The revelation creates conflict when he falls in love with a Sikh girl whose family initially objects to their union, but the truth about his religious identity changes their position. The film explores the complications that ensue when his biological parents attempt to reclaim him.
