Asha, a poor young woman devoted to a medical student named Raj, is forced by her dying father's wish to instead marry Gopal, a man from Simla, and the couple later raise three daughters with distinct personalities and ambitions. Years later, after Gopal's job takes him away to Bombay, Raj resurfaces as a doctor in the family's neighborhood, growing close to Asha again and mentoring one daughter musically while his brother courts another. Tensions escalate when a blackmailer targeting Asha over a hidden secret is killed, leading to Raj's arrest.
