Rosaappo Ravikkai Kaari

Set during the colonial era in a hilly village near Salem, this Tamil drama follows Sembattayan, an unlettered betel-leaf seller, whose mother arranges his marriage to Nandhini, a modern, educated woman from another village. Struggling to adapt to his rustic household, Nandhini grows increasingly discontented and distant from her husband and mother-in-law, and her path crosses with a recruiting agent working for the British, setting off tensions within the household and among the villagers. The story is a remake of a Kannada film based on a novella, and was shot around Yercaud in early 1979.
