Two escaped convicts on the run end up in a border village where locals mistake them for long-awaited priests sent to reopen an old, allegedly cursed church. Forced to keep up the pretense while waiting for a chance to flee, they find their bumbling deeds accidentally interpreted as miracles, deepening the town's faith in them. Complications mount when one of the men's past ties to a local family surface, and the two must navigate the village's secrets while planning their escape.
