Set in a rural Tamil village, this 1979 romantic drama follows a newly arrived schoolteacher who falls for the daughter of a temple musician while also forming a warm intellectual bond with a visiting social worker. Their happiness is threatened by the village's predatory headman, who covets the young woman and schemes to destroy the teacher's reputation and separate the couple.
