A young man on a pilgrimage falls for a visiting NRI woman he meets at a train station, and the two exchange false names before she suddenly departs, leaving him only a hidden note. Their paths diverge as she faces family pressure over an arranged engagement while he later takes an engineering job in the United States to search for her, unaware his new boss is her cousin and a rival suitor for her hand. Their reunion abroad sets the stage for the story's central romantic conflict.
