This 1991 Malayalam fantasy-romance follows Bhama, a college student who discovers a wooden carving on a beach that transforms into a mysterious celestial being calling himself Devan. As their romance deepens, Bhama learns from her grandmother about the mythical nature of such beings and their tendency to vanish after enchanting mortal women, even as her family grows fond of Devan and her jealous fiancé grows suspicious. The story, directed by P. Padmarajan, blends Hindu mythology with a tale of forbidden love that later gained a devoted following despite its rocky initial reception.
