This 1978 Tamil drama, directed by K. Balachander and adapted from the Malayalam film Adimakal, follows two households linked by love and social pressure. Indumathi resists marriage and spars with her brother's friend Sanjeevi despite a mutual attraction, while a village girl named Thilagam comes to work as a servant in her brother Venkatachalam's home and becomes entangled with him, leading to a pregnancy that upends her life. As Thilagam turns to Sanjeevi and a hearing-impaired coworker named Kasi for support, the film traces how these intersecting relationships evolve.

We checked the streaming catalogues and it isn’t on any service we cover — in any country, not just yours. Films leave and return, so this can change.

We check JioHotstar, Eros Now, Sun NXT, Prime Video, ZEE5 and 13 others. If it is streaming somewhere we don’t read, it won’t show up here — tell us and we’ll add it.
