Set against the backdrop of Aligarh Muslim University and the culture of Lucknow, this 1963 Hindi drama follows a young man named Anwar who falls for a woman he glimpses while veiled and cannot forget. His path crosses with a nobleman, Nawab Buland Akhtar Changezi, who helps him find work and later asks him to tutor his sister Husna, only for Anwar to discover she is the very woman he had fallen for. As their romance develops with the Nawab's blessing, financial troubles and the temptations of a courtesan named Najma complicate the couple's chances of marrying, while a wealthy suitor also seeks Husna's hand.
