Set in a rural Tamil village, this 1983 romantic drama follows Veerannan, a young man whose family is estranged from that of his sister's in-laws over an old dowry dispute, and Muthupechi, his niece who secretly hopes to marry him. As village rivalries, a womanizing father-in-law's schemes, and a bull-taming contest during a local festival intertwine, the couple's budding relationship becomes entangled in escalating conflict between two villages. Directed by Bharathiraja, it marked the Tamil film debuts of its lead actors.
