A rural farmer devoted to his mother sends his sister to study in the city, where she falls in love with the son of a wealthy landowner—the very family with whom their own household has feuded for years. The ensuing conflict between the two families forms the central tension, while a parallel romance develops between the farmer and a spirited local woman.
