Khushboo follows Kusum, who is wed as a child to Vrindavan but is later disowned by his family after a false accusation involving her father's death. As adults, Kusum secretly still regards herself bound to Vrindavan even as he grows up unaware of her true identity and moves on with his own life, setting the stage for their paths to cross again years later. The 1975 Hindi drama, directed by Gulzar and starring Jeetendra and Hema Malini with music by R. D. Burman, is based on a Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel via its earlier Bengali film adaptation.
