Kayal is a 2014 Tamil romantic drama set around the time of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, following two close friends who fund their travels through hard work. During one journey they unwittingly assist a couple in eloping, leading the bride's family to detain and interrogate them, and in this household one of the friends falls for a young woman named Kayal and openly declares his feelings. After being cleared of involvement in the elopement, the two part ways, and Kayal later sets off to Kanyakumari in search of him, with the story following their path toward reuniting.
