This 1968 Hindi drama, directed by Mohan Sehgal and starring Shashi Kapoor and Asha Parekh, tackles the practice of child marriage. It follows a poet who falls for a village woman, only to discover she was wed as a child to another man of the same name, setting off a tangle of mistaken identity and conflicting loyalties. As the story unfolds, the two young people wed unknowingly to others must confront the traditions binding them to marriages they never chose.
