Julie centers on a young Anglo-Indian Christian woman from a troubled home who falls for a Hindu Brahmin friend of the family. Their relationship leads to an unplanned pregnancy that is hidden from both families, forcing Julie to navigate her mother's disapproval and the wider social stigma around interfaith romance and premarital pregnancy in 1970s India. The 1975 Hindi drama marked lead actress Lakshmi's Hindi debut and also gave Sridevi one of her first substantial Hindi film roles.
