Set in a working-class Sikh neighborhood of Delhi, this period drama unfolds over three tense days following Indira Gandhi's assassination in 1984. As mobs target Sikh residents in retaliatory violence, the protagonist Jogi sees his own family and neighbors attacked, and he ultimately resolves to organize a rescue effort to get his community safely out of the city. The story follows his efforts, aided by a police-officer friend and another ally, to smuggle Sikh families to safety amid the escalating riots.
