Set against the backdrop of India's dowry system, this 1990 romantic action drama follows Shashi Sharma, who—having lost a sister to dowry-related violence—vows alongside friends never to give or take dowry. He weds Sugandha without any dowry and arranges his sister Rama's marriage into a wealthy, dowry-hungry family, setting off tension with her greedy in-laws once they realize they won't profit from the union. As the family's scheming escalates, Shashi and Rama's husband must confront growing threats to protect her. Directed by Arun Bhatt, it stars Aamir Khan and Farha Naaz and is a remake of the Kannada film Avale Nanna Hendthi.
