When a well-known actress is found dead in a hotel room and initially ruled a suicide, public pressure pushes the case to the CBI, where officer Sethurama Iyer takes over the inquiry under a tight deadline with two assistants. Physical clues at the scene convince him the death was staged to look like self-inflicted, setting off a search through several suspects tied to the victim's personal and professional life, including a fellow actor, a hired thug, a former politician, and her fiancé. As leads about a purchased garment and phone calls are traced, the investigation narrows toward unexpected connections among the people closest to her.
