This 1964 Hindi drama, directed by V. Shantaram, follows Vijay, the son of a struggling temple sculptor, who falls in love with Vidya, a classical dancer fleeing an arrangement that would force her into a wealthy man's household. Despite his father's disapproval, Vijay marries her, but circumstances soon separate the couple when he leaves home to pursue a major sculpting commission for a wealthy patron.
