This 1977 Telugu mythological drama retells the Mahabharata story of Karna, tracing his unusual birth and upbringing, the curses and slights he endures due to his low-born status, and his unwavering bond with Duryodhana. Directed by and starring N. T. Rama Rao in multiple roles, the film builds toward the Kurukshetra war, portraying Karna's internal conflict between loyalty to his friend and his hidden ties to the Pandavas. The narrative also offers a more sympathetic depiction of Duryodhana than is typical in traditional tellings.
