This 1975 Hindi-language romantic comedy, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and adapted from the Bengali film Chhadmabeshi, follows a botany professor who falls for a young woman while secretly standing in for an ailing guesthouse caretaker, a ruse that eventually leads to their marriage. Once married, his wife's admiration for her brother-in-law's supposedly superior intellect spurs the professor into an elaborate scheme, adopting a new disguise as a purist Hindi-speaking driver to outwit him, drawing friends and family into a growing web of practical jokes.
