Set during the era of the Maurya Empire, this 1964 Hindi drama follows Bijgupta, a nobleman connected to the court of Chandragupta Maurya, and his romantic attachment to a courtesan named Chitralekha. Directed by Kidar Sharma, it is a remake of his own 1941 film based on Bhagwati Charan Verma's novel, and features a musical score by Roshan with lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi.
