After her parents try to arrange her marriage, a young woman named Mala flees her home with money meant for two men who promised to launch her into films. When greed drives one of them to violence, Mala finds herself fleeing for her safety aboard a bus traveling from Bombay to Goa, filled with a varied group of fellow travelers. Along the way, a young man who admires her steps in to protect her, and the two grow close during the journey.
