Set in a rural Tamil village, this romantic drama unfolds through flashback as Bharathi, a lower-caste worker devoted to landlord Vellaisamy Thevar, becomes the object of affection for the landlord's daughter Kannamma after rescuing her at a village fair. Bound by loyalty and the rigid caste divide between them, Bharathi struggles to acknowledge his own feelings even as Kannamma's family moves forward with plans to marry her off, setting the stage for a tragic exploration of love, social hierarchy, and duty. The story is framed by a present-day narrative in which an older Bharathi, now a landlord himself, performs manual labor to challenge caste-based social norms.
