Bhakta Prahlada

This 1967 Telugu devotional drama retells the mythological story of Prahlada, a young boy whose unwavering faith in the god Vishnu puts him at odds with his tyrannical demon-king father, Hiranyakashipu. Directed by Chitrapu Narayana Rao for AVM Productions and shot in color, the film traces the cosmic backstory of Hiranyakashipu's birth and rise to power before focusing on his escalating, unsuccessful attempts to break his son's devotion. It was a major box-office hit that also saw dubbed Tamil and Hindi releases the same year.
