This 2014 Malayalam film, marking director Pramod Payyannur's debut, brings Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's classic novel of the same name to the screen. It follows Majeed and Suhra, friends since childhood who grow into lovers despite their differing family circumstances, with Majeed coming from wealth while Suhra's household faces hardship after her father's death. When his attempt to secure support for her education is denied by his own family, Majeed leaves home to travel to faraway places, and the story also brings in other figures from Basheer's fiction. Mammootty and Isha Talwar play the leads, supported by Meena, Seema Biswas, KPAC Lalitha and Mamukkoya, with music contributed by several noted lyricists and composers.
