This 1989 Telugu masala film follows Kalyan, a poor but good-hearted young man, who falls for Rekha, the daughter of a domineering wealthy businesswoman named Chamundeswari. Their romance is complicated when Chamundeswari refuses to allow the relationship and also rejects a match between her son and Kalyan's sister, setting up a battle of wills between Kalyan and Rekha's mother. Directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy and produced by Allu Aravind, the film stars Chiranjeevi, Vanisri, and Vijayashanti, and became a notable commercial success that was later remade in several other Indian languages.
