Set during the rise of communist movements in 1960s Bengal, this film follows a landless farmer's struggle against exploitation by his landlord through the legal system, while his brother and a young woman from his village seek opportunity in Calcutta with tragic consequences. Spanning years of court battles and political change, the narrative interweaves the farmer's fight for land rights with the darker fates of those who leave the village seeking better lives.
