This Marathi-language biographical drama traces the life of Anandi Gopal Joshi, a child bride from Kalyan who, after the death of her infant son, is encouraged by her husband Gopalrao to pursue an education despite fierce social opposition. The story follows their move through several towns as she learns to read and write, and shows how correspondence with an American acquaintance and a public speech defending her ambitions lead to her traveling alone to the United States to study medicine at a women's medical college in Pennsylvania. It depicts the personal and societal struggles she faces as one of the earliest Indian women to seek a medical degree abroad.
