This 1980 Indo-Soviet fantasy, set in a mythical Central Asian town, follows a poor woodcutter who searches for his missing father and along the way rescues and falls for a princess fleeing a throne-seizing usurper. His journey soon entangles him with a gang of forty bandits who guard their stolen treasure in a spell-locked cave, forcing him to learn their secrets to protect his community and loved ones. Family tension with his greedy older brother further complicates his efforts to outwit the outlaws and their hidden leader.
