Sent away to work at a countryside dam project, a wealthy young man begins a correspondence romance after writing to the woman his late mother wanted him to marry, unaware that her younger sister is the one secretly replying to his letters. As real feelings develop between him and the sister, a serious illness diagnosis forces him to push her toward marrying his doctor friend instead, setting up a love triangle drawn from themes similar to the classic tragic romance Devdas. This Hindi production, starring Raj Kapoor and Nargis, was later dubbed into Telugu as Prema Lekhalu.
